The Fire Traingle

The Fire Triangle is what it’s called. It’s actually a tetrahedron, since a fire involves the existence of four elements:

Oxygen to sustain combustion

Heat to raise the material to its ignition temperature

Fuel to support the combustion

Chemical reaction between the other three elements

The Fire fighting Guidelines

Just Remember the Three A’s

ACTIVATE

Use the building’s alarm system or dial 101 to contact the fire department. Alternatively, hire someone to do it for you.

ASSIST

Any people in imminent threat, or others who are unable to leave the building on their own, to exit the building without risk to yourself

ATTEMPT

Just after engaging the Building Alarm System & Assisting Any Individuals In Imminent Risk.

Only combat a fire if and only if the following conditions are met:

  • The fire is small and well-controlled.
  • You are not at risk from radioactive smoke.
  • You have an escape route.
  • Your senses warn you that all is well.

How to use a Fire Extinguishers

Before using an extinguisher in your workplace, it is critical to understand where they are located and what types of extinguishers are available.

Because fire extinguishers can be heavy, it’s a good idea to practise picking up and holding one to get a sense of the weight and feel.

Read the operating instructions and warnings on the fire extinguisher label carefully. Not all fire extinguishers are the same.

Experiment with releasing the discharge hose or horn and directing it at the base of a simulated fire. Pulling the pin or squeezing the lever is not permitted. This will cause the extinguisher seal to break and the pressure to drop.

When it comes time to use a fire extinguisher, remember PASS!

  • Pull the pin.
  • From the recommended safe distance, aim the nozzle or hose at the base of the fire.
  • To release the fire extinguishing agent, squeeze the operating lever.
  • Sweep the nozzle or hose from side to side until the fire has been extinguished, beginning at the recommended distance.

Different Class of Fire

Class A

Class A fires involve ordinary combustible materials like wood, paper, cloth, rubber, and some plastics.

Class B

Class B fires involve flammable liquids or gases, such as gasoline, oil, propane, and butane.

Class C

Class C fires involve energized electrical equipment like appliances, wiring, circuit breakers, and outlets.

Class D

Class D fires involve combustible metals like magnesium, titanium, potassium, sodium, and lithium.

Class E

Class E may refer to fires involving electrical equipment or energized electrical sources.

Class F

Class F is used in some localized systems, particularly in relation to kitchen fires.

Four different types of water extinguishers: water jet, water spray, water with additives and water mist or fog.

01. Water Jet

Water jet extinguishers operate by spraying a jet of water at the burning objects, cooling them and stopping them from re-igniting. They are not to be used on live electrical devices.

02. Water Spray

Water spray extinguishers use a very fine spray of water droplets, each surrounded by non-conductive air. Any water spray fire extinguishers have a 35 kV dielectric test permit, which ensures they have been measured at one metre on a 35,000 Volt electrical source.

03. Water with Additives

Water extinguishers with additives are extinguishers that have foaming chemicals added to them. The water loses its normal surface friction, allowing it to soak more effectively into the burning materials. Since the additives are mixed into the water, a smaller extinguisher will achieve the same fire rating as a bigger, water-only extinguisher.

04. Water Mist or Fog

Water mist or fog extinguishers apply water in the form of mist or fog, with even smaller droplets than a water spray extinguisher. The bigger the droplet, the greater its surface area in comparison to its size, the faster it evaporates, absorbing heat energy. The disadvantage is that the heavier the droplet, the less it weighs and therefore the less strong the water cloud.

Mechanical Foam

“KABSON” Foam Fire Extinguishers can be used On Class A and B fires. They are well suited to extinguishing liquid fires like gasoline or diesel, but they are more flexible than water jet extinguishers because they can also be used on solids like wood and paper. The foam extinguishes liquid fires by covering the liquid’s surface, blocking flammable vapour from entering the air and depriving the fire of power. extinguisher available. The fire extinguisher is made of high-quality materials. The extinguishers are lightweight and compact, making them suitable for automotive, residential, and commercial applications. They can not be used on free-flowing liquid flames.

Wet Chemical

“KABSON”  A Wet Chemical fire extinguisher is a specialized tool used to combat Class F fires caused by cooking oils and fats. It contains a water and alkaline compound solution that cools and suppresses the fire while forming a soapy layer to prevent re-ignition. With its distinctive red canister and yellow “F” label, it is commonly found in kitchens and food service establishments. By following the proper instructions, such as pulling the safety pin and aiming at the base of the fire, this extinguisher provides a reliable means of quickly extinguishing and controlling cooking oil and fat fires.
